Who We Are

Imua Maui Nei exists to inspire healing, hope, and unity for the people of Maui by integrating Hawaiian values with holistic wellness practices. Rooted in the spirit of aloha and resilience, our mission is to empower individuals and families—especially those affected by the Lahaina fires—through culturally grounded, emotionally supportive, and physically restorative programs that honor the sacred bond between land, sea, and community.

The organization draws deeply from Hawaiian values and traditions, weaving a tapestry of strength, island love, and aloha spirit to uplift those most impacted by the fires.

Imua Maui Nei was born from the challenges that the Lahaina fires presented to our island's community.

Meet Our Founder

Willy Keokalani Shim

Willy Keokalani Shim, whose Hawaiian name Keo Kalani means “Echo of the Heavens,” has always embodied the spirit of resilience and connection. Born and raised in Hawai’i, Willy spent decades sharing his love for the ocean, teaching generations to surf and experience the mana that surf and experience the mana that flows through these lands. When the Lahaina fires destroyed his town, home, and business, Willy didn’t seek refuge in material recovery—instead, he turned to the land and his community, determined to lead the way in healing and rebuilding. His mission is not just to restore what was lost, but to ensure Maui thrives, driven by the aloha spirit and the shared love for Hawai’i.

Guided by the principles of 'ohana (family), kuleana (responsibility), and ho'oponopono (making things right), our mission is to ensure every individual can navigate life's challenges with strength, unity, and optimism, honoring the legacy of our forebears and the sacredness of our land.

The name “Imua Maui Nei,” meaning “Move Forward, This Maui,” serves as a call for resilience and renewal. It reflects a vision of progress rooted in cultural heritage and sustainable practices. Under Willy’s guidance, the organization blends traditional Hawaiian wisdom with modern therapeutic approaches to support emotional, physical, and cultural healing.
